The real reason

You may have noticed a slight hiatus from posting. While I would like to blame this on a very productive spurt of Christmas knitting, I have to be frankly honest. It's not the knitting. It's the gaming.

The game, specifically. Mass Effect. It's so cool. If you don't have it, go buy it. If you don't have a 360, go get one and the game. I swear, it's worth it. I haven't played a game this much fun since, well, KotOR.

I am knitting, too, of course. I may be the only person knitting the Icarus shawl while taking the elevator in the Normandy, but I'm comfortable with that level of geekdom.

Of course, if any of you have, I expect a comment right away so I can know I'm not alone.

The First Lace

There she us, unblocked and hot off the needles. Miriam Felton's Icarus Shawl. I was utterly enchanted while knitting this, though it took four months. Maybe slightly less enchanted the past few days, but I really.wanted.to.finish. So, I kept on keeping on.

Knit on size four needles using less than one skein of Knit Picks Bare in lace weight. For those of you doing the math, that means this whole project cost less than $15, pattern included. Time, of course, not included.

And we are moving to...

Surprised? I am, too!

Will has a great job offer, though, and I promised that the next move would be for his career (since the move here was for mine). I've never been to Philly (he was assured by a taxi driver that they do call it that) but am hoping to love it.

This means very little knitting will be getting done in the next couple of weeks. I do, of course, have some socks on the needles and I am to the brainless part of a sweater. But... time is short and empty coxes are plentiful!

Fair isle for me

See that over there? That's not Christmas knitting. That's a selfish sweater for me, all me. (Details here).

It's not that I'm not Christmas knitting. It's that I was insane/crazy/stupid/ignorant when I began laying out how much Christmas knitting I could get done this month. Or maybe I forgot about the infant and the faster-than-a-speeding-bullet two year old. But I have one pair of gloves and a pair of socks languishing on the needles, not to mention two planned pairs of socks that haven't even been cast on. Oh, yeah. And that sweater that still needs arms.

The only thing that seems to be going well is the Icarus shawl. I don't have pictures, but I started the binding off last night. So... hopefully the blocking will occur today and I'll have pretty pictures to show you all within the week.

In other news, we have a decorated tree, wrapped presents and the cutest gingerbread house I've ever seen. C'mon Christmas!
